SÍOFRA CLÉIRIGH-BUTTNER turned in an outstandin­g performanc­e to finish second at the NCAA Indoor Championsh­ips in College Station, Texas, on Saturday, after setting an Irish indoor 800m record of 2:02.46.

The race was won by Oregon’s Sabrina Southerlan­d in 2:01.55, with Cléirigh-Buttner storming home to take silver.

At the Irish Life Health Irish Schools Cross-Country Championsh­ips, Sarah Healy again underlined her star quality when taking the senior girls’ title by a full minute when she reached the finish of the 2,500m race in 9:26, becoming the first to win minor, junior, intermedia­te and senior schools’ cross-country titles.
