Swine flu – the facts

-

SWINE flu is a strain of the influenza A H1N1 virus.

It quickly spread across the globe during a pandemic in 2009 but is now considered among the seasonal flu viruses that typically break out during flu season. Vaccines have since been developed to provide immunity against the strain.

Highly contagious, it and can be spread rapidly through tiny droplets emitted during a cough or sneeze. The virus can also be spread to anyone touching door handles and other surfaces up to 24 hours after initial contamination.

Dehydration and blue lips and skin in children and other signs of urgent respiratory distress are common symptoms.
