Listen and learn of true horror

■ Lest anyone forgets or has never really grasped the absolute horror of the mother and baby homes, they should open the RTÉ radio player to listen back to Miriam O’Callaghan’s interviews (Sunday, March 8) with several survivors.

I have heard commentators pass off these abuses as a societal cultural attitude of the time, which in my opinion is the same as saying the establishment of camps in the Serbian/Bosnian war or the Syrian war was simply a societal cultural attitude.

The utter cruelty some nuns and priests dished out to vulnerable girls in the name of what is supposed to be a loving and forgiving God should never be forgotten.

The Catholic Church in this country has lost the right to comment on morality and social issues because, thankfully, the Church has lost its power over the people of Ireland.
