Tuohy to avoid further censure as ref had already adjudicated

GALWAY defender Adrian Tuohy will escape sanction after appearing to jab his hurl into Limerick Barry Murphy’s groin area during Sunday’s Allianz Division 1B top-of-the-table clash.

Tuohy picked up a yellow card for the incident after referee Cathal McAllister consulted with officials. Under GAA rules the incident can’t now be revisited because it has already been deemed to have been adjudicated on.

Last year Tuohy avoided sanction when cameras appeared to show he had pulled the helmet of Patrick ‘Bonner’ Maher during the All-Ireland semi-final against Tipperary. However, the GAA’s Central Competition Controls Committee could choose to look at other flashpoints that erupted during the first half.

Meanwhile, Kilkenny hurling manager Brian Cody has trimmed his squad while promising half-back Joe Lyng will miss the remainder of their league campaign because of a work engagement abroad. Lyng was one of three players hauled off by the 26th minute in Kilkenny’s secondround league match against Clare and hasn’t featured since.

Evan Cody, Chris Bolger, John Walsh and Sean Morrissey are among those who have been released back to their clubs. Bolger and Walsh were replacements during the Walsh Cup final against Wexford that ended with Wexford winning a free-taking competition after the game had finished level after extra-time.

Limerick’s win has earned them a quarter-final against Clare and they won a toss for home advantage with the match now fixed for the Gaelic Grounds at 4pm on Sunday.

Wexford had already been guaranteed hosting rights for their quarter-final against league champions Galway, a game that will throw in at 2pm.

The first quarter-final on Sunday sees Offaly, who also won a coin toss for the home venue, host Kilkenny at Bord na Móna O’Connor Park in Tullamore at 1pm while Parnell Park is the venue for Dublin and Tipperary at 3pm.

Páirc Uí Rinn is the venue for the 1A relegation play-off between Cork and Waterford at 3pm.
