Horan has first meeting with CPA

NEW GAA president John Horan has met with the Club Players Association (CPA) for the first time, after just over two weeks in office.

Horan (below) was joined by outgoing GAA director-general Páraic Duffy and the director of games administration and player welfare Fergal McGill at the meeting which was attended by four members of the CPA executive.

However, the CPA have remained tightlipped on their first meeting with the new president, stating only that they are “continuing ongoing discussions with the GAA management on a range of topics.

“There are positive lines of engagement and we will continue to offer our contributions as GAA members.”

Horan’s proposal to establish a National Club Forum was one of the key points of his inaugural address to Congress last month.

“Club representatives will be invited to come to Croke Park to discuss the issues and matters that pertain to their specific area of activity,” he said at Congress. “Crucially clubs will get the opportunity to discuss the challenges and difficulties they face on the ground and hopefully lead to a climate of problemsharing and problemsolving.”

He subsequently appointed former Connacht Council president Mick Rock as chairman of that new body. The CPA felt they did not have a good relationship with previous president Aogán Ó Feraghaíl.
