Tubs floored by racecourse experience but picks himself up to back a couple of winners

- Ryan Nugent

IT may have been a rough night’s sleep for Ryan Tubridy in Cheltenham last night after the presenter admitted he was offered space on Ted Walsh’s floor on his first visit.

The ‘Late Late Show’ host admitted that legendary trainer Walsh is the main reason he’s made his debut at the famous Prestbury Park racetrack.

While a guest on the show last year, Walsh urged Tubridy to go to the festival and enjoy the madness.

And he didn’t need to be asked twice. “I had no intention of coming here until a year ago on the ‘Late Late Show’. Ted was saying you should come to Cheltenham some time.

“He was taking the mickey really and I said, you know what, I think I will,” Tubridy said. “And I think he got the fright of his life when I called him last week and said: “Ted, we’re coming.”

Tubridy, who will be broadcasting his RTÉ Radio One show this morning live from Cheltenham, said he was even offered a place to stay.

“He offered us room on the floor of his place.

“I can tell you he did not offer us a bed or a couch, it was the floor,” he said.

“So I may end up on Ted Walsh’s floor, we’ll see how it goes,” he joked.

Arriving at the festival, Tubridy’s first port of call was the ATM – and it’s understood that despite admitting to being a novice, he did have a couple of winners.
