Golden daffodils in Dalkey

-

THE garden of Bungabhla, at Hyde Road in Dalkey, comes into its own at this time of year.

It’s dotted with ornamental trees — all maturing nicely — and the tireless gardener in residence has packed daffodil bulbs around their feet. In spring there are bursts of yellow all over the garden.

The house is near the corner where Hyde Road meets Castle Park Road, and as such it has an oddly-shaped garden that narrows to a triangle at the back. But it’s all very neat and private, with a high wall, a lawn, paths, deep flowerbeds and a patio.

The care applied to the interior of the house has been unstinting as well. It’s had a recent refurbishment and it’s a house that will encourage parties because of the way the reception rooms are arranged.

Right of the entrance hall is a square sitting room with a bow window and a stone fireplace.

Sliding doors lead from there into the dining room and this opens into both the kitchen and the big, dual aspect family room (just under 27ft by

13ft).

The family room is single-storey and has a high ceiling with skylights and a floor-to-ceiling window with doors to the garden, and there’s a wood-burning stove in the fireplace for the evenings.

The kitchen has a hardwood floor and a centre island with granite countertops. There’s another solid-fuel stove in here and more French doors to the garden.

The last reception room on the ground floor is a music room or study at the back of the house. It doesn’t communicate directly with the other rooms but it does have its own exit to the garden, so it could be a utility instead.

Upstairs are four bedrooms, one with an en-suite and walk-in wardrobe. The floor area is 2,285 sq ft in all.

The agent is Lynam Auctioneers

(01) 296 5374 and the price is €1.1m.
