Con keen for another big win

REIGNING champions Cork Con will hope to return to second in the Ulster Bank League Division 1A when they travel to take on UCD at Belfield tomorrow.

Cork Con had an impressive 25-13 win at home to Lansdowne on March 11, and need to keep the pressure on as they bid to retain their crown for the first time in their history.

Cork have won the top tier on five occasions and they are five points clear of fifth-placed Garryowen in the standings. Garryowen are away to Clontarf at Castle Avenue.

Also in Round 16, Young Munster host the league’s bottom side, Buccaneers, at Tom Clifford Park. Young Munster had a disappointing 21-19 loss against Dublin University at College Park.

Shannon used to dominate Division 1A but they haven’t won the league since 2009. They are third in Division 1B before they host Old Wesley at Thomond Park on Saturday.

UCC are fourth and they go to play Old Belvedere at Anglesea Road. UL Bohemians are lower down the standings and need a win at Ballymena, while basement side Dolphin are away to Ballynahinch.

In Division 2A, Highfield are 12 points behind leaders Malone, but they do have a game in hand, and they are at Dub Lane tomorrow for a game against Queen’s University.

Third-placed Cashel are away to Malone. And Nenagh Ormond, who are one place further back, make the trip to Greystones.

In Division 2B, Old Crescent are clear at the top and they host Dungannon at Rosbrien. Sunday’s Well are at home to Wanderers in Irish Independent Park.

In 2C, Thomond are at Seapoint, Bruff are away to Sligo and Midleton make the journey to Bangor.
