Two pedestrians killed in horror crash on rural road
TWO female pedestrians have died in a road traffic crash involving two vehicles in Co Galway.
Gardaí in Ballinasloe are investigating the tragic incident that occurred at Station Road at approximately 5.40pm yesterday. The two women, both in their 50s, died when they were hit by a car that had collided with a second vehicle.
They were pronounced dead at the scene and their bodies have been removed to Portiuncula Hospital.
The Station Road (R358) was closed from the junction to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
Local councillor Dermot Connolly said the village was thinking of anyone who had been affected by the tragic incident.
“We are not aware of who is involved yet, but we are thinking of anyone affected this evening,” he said.

The councillor was attending a charity quiz when news of the crash broke and said those present held a silent prayer out of respect.
