Cavan concern as injury makes McVeety a doubt for Donegal tie

McVeety was superb for Mattie McGleenan’s side as they went down to Roscommon in last Sunday’s NFL Division 2 clash in Croke Park, hitting 1-3 from play. However, he was forced off late in the game with McGleenan confirming that his captain suffered a hamstring tear.

“At this stage it looks like grade two or three, so four to six weeks,” said McGleenan (above).

“We have a great medical team so we’ll let them take care of it. They’re only my thoughts at this stage, they’re the brains of this operation.”

Cavan coughed up four secondhalf goals last weekend to suffer yet another defeat at the hands of Roscommon. And while the Tyrone native agreed that his side enjoyed a productive league campaign, he urged his troops to push on ahead of their trip to Ballybofey, where Donegal haven’t lost in league or championship since 2010.

“We’ve had a great National League. Let’s be honest, most people predicted Cavan to be relegated out of Division 2 this year, and now we’re back in Division 1.

“At this edge of the game, it’s ruthless. If you make mistakes, you make fundamental errors, you’re punished. That’s the cold reality of the day. There are areas we have to improve on, our retention of the ball, our scoretaking, and our defensive set-up.

“We have to work harder. You can’t concede that if you expect to come out of Ballybofey.”
