Bigger bump

Billowing fits and soft fabrics have long been associated with maternity wear, especially during the final trimester, when comfort takes priority. As we move into the warmer months, light, airy silhouettes will help you keep cool and covered. We often associate long floaty styles with overpowering fabrics, but this doesn’t have to be the case. Take Chrissy Teigen, for example. The model and social media star puts a distinctly tougher spin on the print maxi dress with slick leather pairings. While print maxi dresses are nothing new for spring (we see them every year), they are a safe-yet-stylish option during your pregnancy and can be worn multiple ways. This season, follow Teigen’s lead and show the maxi’s edgier side with an on-trend biker jacket and ankle boots.

Early days

The high street may be filled with floaty sundresses and wispy jumpsuits, but the jacket is the centerpiece of any spring wardrobe. While the days are getting longer and the evenings are getting brighter, we’re still faced with April showers and unpredictable temperatures. From blazers to bikers and bombers, the high street offers plenty of different styles and shapes and while investing in a new overcoat during the first few weeks of your pregnancy may seem unwise, it’s one of the only wardrobe staples that you can wear throughout and after your pregnancy. This season, the jacket is more than a practical cover-up, as proved by TV presenter Cat Deeley. A printed blazer like Cat’s is appropriate for every occasion, spacious enough to accommodate a growing bump, and brings her entire ensemble together. With a statement jacket like this, you can go two ways; keep the rest of your look simple and relaxed, or mix and match with contrasting prints and textures.

New mum

During this time of year, we are surrounded by pastel tones, preppy silhouettes and bold prints — but what if your personal style doesn’t fit into any of these trends? For new mums, it’s important to be comfortable in what you’re wearing rather than feeling out of your comfort zone in spring’s more colourful trends. Proving that dark prints are not exclusive to the colder months, actress and producer Mindy Kaling provides the perfect example with a floor-skimming rich floral print dress. When it comes to accessories, use the palette of the print on the dress as guide and opt for a breathable wrap coat as a coverup. Perfect for all occasions, this style of coat is not restrictive on the body and can be worn open or closed, depending on what’s more comfortable for your body.
