Goggin thrilled to bag maiden try

WHILE last weekend was a huge occasion for Munster captain CJ Stander as his club team played a game and won in his home town of George in South Africa, it was equally as special for Limerick native Dan Goggin who scored his first try for the province in the

39-22 win.

Goggin started at outside centre alongside Rory Scannell for the

PRO14 clash and was rewarded for a fine individual performance with his try after 53 minutes in the first of Munster’s two games in the country.

The fact that he put the finishing touches on such a fluid move and that the team performed admirably made it all the more special for Goggin.

“It was such a big run-up to this game – we had to take it very seriously after the big win (against Edinburgh) last week,” said Goggin.

“We couldn’t just let our heads down and take it for granted that we were going to walk this one. Definitely they tested us at the start and it was a tough fight to come back in the end.”

A knee injury in September robbed Goggin of most of this campaign, but the six caps earned this season has extended his tally to 20 now.

While Goggin would love to have bagged his first Munster try at Thomond Park considering he was brought up a stone’s throw away from the Limerick venue, the travelling Munster supporters ensured his moment did not go unnoticed.

More than 200 Munster fans made the night in Outeniqua Park in George very special and Goggin says he won’t forget it in a while.

“It was lovely to get my first try on a huge occasion over the South Africa and I’m really happy with it.

“It’s crazy how this many people will travel for a small game in the world so it means so much to us that they’re roaring us on.”
