Last round for club ambitions

EXPECT plenty of movement in the five divisions of the Ulster Bank League this weekend with promotion battles, play-off places and relegation slots up for grabs in the final round of games.

In Division 1A, Cork Con can clinch a home semi-final with victory in Clontarf, while Garryowen will likely face leaders Lansdowne if they manage to beat St Mary’s College and secure fourth place.

Young Munster face UCD in Dublin, although they are already five points behind fourth place and it looks like a mid-table finish is all they can hope for.

Shannon will secure promotion back to the top flight with victory over UCC at Thomond Park tomorrow, although UCC will hope to boost their play-off hopes with victory and hope that third-place Banbridge slip up.

Dolphin are already relegated, although UL Bohs can still avoid a relegation play-off if they do that favour for UCC in Banbridge.

In the third tier Highfield must beat Blackrock and hope Nenagh defeat Malone to secure automatic promotion, while Cashel have to beat Galwegians to oust Nenagh from the promotion play-off.

Old Crescent’s promotion from 2B has long been assured and they host Rainey, while Sunday’s Well will hope to end on a high with victory over MU Barnhall.

But the tightest of all five divisions, 2C, will be decided when second-placed Thomond travel to Sligo with the winner earning promotion.

Currently the teams are tied on 51 points each, while third and fourth-placed teams Malahide and Omagh are only four points back.

Sligo or Thomond could drop as far as fourth if the other top teams claim big wins.

All games kick-off at 2.30pm.
