WHAT NOT TO MISS THIS WEEK
The movie Amadeus: The Director’s Cut
A gripping, gruelling study of the dark side of genius. Miloš Forman’s recounting of the life of Mozart (1984) featured an opinion-splitting performance by Tom Hulce, playing the composer as an 18th century Justin Bieber. Sunday, 3pm, Palas Galway
The exhibition EVA International
Ireland’s biennial exhibition of contemporary art has returned to Limerick, featuring a 12-week programme of events and works by Irish and international names such as Sam Keogh, Isabel Nolan and Sanja Ivekovic. This year’s venues include the Limerick City Gallery of Art, the Cleeve’s Condensed Milk Factory and the Hunt Museum.
Until July 8
The lol Marc Maron
A failing stand-up comedian, Maron (right) rejuvenated his career by starting a podcast in his garage. Hundreds of episodes later and with interviews with Barack Obama and other A-listers under his belt, he’s turned it all around (in 2017 he received the ultimate honour: a Netflix special).
Thursday, Vicar Street, Dublin
The podcast Sandra
You can tell podcasting is becoming a serious business when A-listers such as Ethan Hawke start getting involved. The Gen X actor plays Dustin, boss at a tech start-up behind an Alexa-like virtual assistant, Sandra (Kristen Wiig), with Arrested Development’s Alia Shawkat as Sandra employee Helen, trying to keep her boss happy as she goes through a divorce.
The TV show The Woman in White
A scare before bedtime, with Olivia Vinall (left) as a mysterious woman — yes, she wears all white — who manifests in deeply eerie circumstances before London art-teacher Walter Hartright (Ben Hardy). Based on the spooky Wilkie Collins novel. Sunday, 9pm, BBC One
The box set The Alienist
The streets are muddy, the moustaches glorious as Netflix’s latest blockbuster sweeps us back to 19th century New York and a maverick sleuth confronted by a series of horrific murders. With Daniel Brühl, Dakota Fanning and Luke Evans. Available now on Netflix
