Glynn to be based at home for Galway campaign

JOHNNY GLYNN will be able to devote full commitment to Galway hurlers this summer after getting clearance from his New York employers to return home for the duration of the county’s championship hurling campaign.

Galway manager Micheál Donoghue confirmed that the Ardrahan man has remained at home for the last three weeks and will be with them “until the end”.

Glynn spent last summer making transatlantic f lights from his New York base to play for Galway in the latter end of the championship.

“He showed massive desire last year to come back. It’s probably not an ideal situation where he was going back and forth,” said Donoghue.

TESTAMENT

“We had a chat after the AllIreland last year, probably that that wouldn’t work again for us. Testament to him, he showed a huge desire in wanting to do that, so we set him a date to come back, we agreed that a long time ago,” said Donoghue.

“He was still working on a programme to do that with Lukasz (Kirszenstein) until he came back. He’s back with us now for three weeks until the end, hopefully.”

Glynn’s construction employers have been open to the move, Donoghue confirmed. “The job that he has he’s able to do from here for them. There is huge co-operation from within as well as flexibility.”

Glynn left for the US after Galway’s defeat to Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final in 2015. He played for New York against Roscommon in the Connacht Football Championship in 2016 but then re-committed to the Tribe hurlers for the league play-offs last year and was involved in the later stages of the championship without really finding his best form.
