Roles for George, Charlotte and social media stars on the big day

- Hannah Furness

WHEN Prince William and Kate Middleton married, one little bridesmaid stole the show, crossly covering her ears from the noise of the crowd.

As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot on Saturday they will have no such worries, after choosing children who are more than used to basking in the limelight.

Ten girls and boys take a starring role in the royal wedding, from Prince George and Princess Charlotte to a host of Americans who are already social media stars.

Jessica Mulroney and Benita Litt, Ms Markle’s friends, will watch on proudly as five of their children take roles in the bridal party, joining Prince Harry’s godchildren for the big day. Not only are the three Mulroneys already Instagram stars, their mothers bring impressive fashion credentials to the day as a stylist and bag designer.

Their involvement, as well as Ms Markle’s, could ensure that the bridesmaids and pageboys are dressed in modern outfits, unlike royal weddings in recent history.

Prince Harry has previously told of his bemusement at being dressed up in “bizarre” outfits as a child, and appeared at the wedding of Charles Spencer, his uncle, in a wide-brimmed hat, frilly shirt and satin sash.

The full bridal party, announced by Kensington Palace, will include Prince George (4), Princess Charlotte (3), Remi (6) and Rylan Litt (7), who are Ms Markle’s god-daughters; Ivy Mulroney (4) and her twin brothers Brian and John (7); Zalie Warren (2) and Florence van Cutsem (3), Harry’s god-daughters; and Jasper Dyer (6), Harry’s godson.

Florence is a cousin of Grace, remembered for her balcony appearance at the wedding of William and Kate.

Harry’s office said last week that all the bridesmaids would be children and that Ms Markle had decided not to have a maid of honour because she could not choose between her friends.

While George and Charlotte will have roles in the ceremony at St George’s Chapel at Windsor, their younger brother Prince Louis, born last month, will not be attending, Kensington Palace has confirmed.
