No action against O’Neill over Under-17s referee confrontation

MARTIN O’Neill will not be punished for going onto the pitch to approach the referee after Ireland’s controversial exit from the European U-17 Championships.

The Ireland boss (right) approached Czech official Zbynek Proske in the aftermath of the contentious defeat to Holland.

He was deeply unhappy with the decision to send off Ireland goalkeeper Jimmy Corcoran during Monday’s penalty shootout. However, UEFA have confirmed that the only disciplinary matter arising from the match is a standard one-match ban for Corcoran who received two yellow cards.

No other issues were raised in the referee’s report. Ireland U-17 boss Colin O’Brien and captain Nathan Collins both sought to play down the incident and Corcoran has since said the ref was correct.
