Trust to benefit in African adventure

WOULD you like to climb Kilimanjaro with an Irish Rugby star? Earth’s Edge are looking for 64 adventurous men and women aged over

18 to answer the call to climb Kilimanjaro and raise vital funds for the IRFU Charitable Trust.

All monies raised from the public will go to IRFU Charitable Trust and they need four teams of 16 people from each of Ireland’s proud provinces.

The provincial team that gets the most people to the summit of Africa’s highest peak will each receive a free wildlife safari in the Serengeti on Day 10 of the itinerary

worth€250.

You must be from or live in the province you choose to climb with. The grandfather rule also applies! Each team will be accompanied by a legendary player to help motivate them to get to the top. Stephen Ferris, Mike McCarthy, Marcus Horan and Shane Byrne are the four former pros selected for the trip.

Kilimanjaro (5,896m) is not only Africa’s highest point, it

is the highest free-standing mountain in the world.

This 12-day expedition includes seven days of walking on the Machame trail, the most scenic route to the summit.

Speaking about the event, Linda Black, from the IRFU Charitable Trust, said: “We are very excited about Ireland’s Call to Kilimanjaro, climbing Kilimanjaro is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This event will make a huge difference and allow us to do so much more for seriously injured rugby players.”
