“When you think you know at a young age that primary school teaching is what you want to do for the rest of your life, it’s a great feeling,” says Leanne. “But, after realising that the course you’ve wanted to do since you were four years old isn’t for you, you can find yourself at a crossroads in life. That is what happened to me.”

Media was always a strong interest of Leanne’s, and it made her question if she wanted to study something in this area.

“It is a field where I could express my personality and creativity in my work. That was always the dream for me.

“The huge difference between these fields left me feeling under huge pressure to decide my entire future.”

Following intensive research online through college websites and articles on media courses, Leanne discovered Dublin City University (DCU).

“I never considered making the long road from Kerry to Dublin for college. I attended the DCU Open Day in 2015, a few weeks after my big reconsideration.

“That day I found comfort in knowing I was right to look at other options, as I discovered an exciting course in Communication Studies and a vibrant university. The CAO process was simple after that. I have never once regretted my decision to come to DCU and I’m doing what I love every single day.”
