Ó RIAIN LEADS BY EXAMPLE FOR ‘THAOBH’
ON a day of glorious sunshine in Croke Park, the hurling on offer matched the wonderful climate as Day 2 of the Cumann na mBunscol finals took place.
Despite the energy-sapping heat, the quality on offer never wavered as 30 teams produced great levels of commitment, skill and entertainment.
The day started brightly with the Corn Johnson, Mooney and O’Brien with Gaelscoil Thaobh na Coille finishing strongly to defeat a battling Scoil Treasa by 3-8 to 3-5.
Conal Ó Riain played the perfect captain’s role for Thaobh na Coille, driving his team forward at every opportunity and his excellence and influence was reflected in a personal tally of 3-4.
In the Corn Olly Quinlan, Scoil Treasa, Firhouse delivered an exhibition in camogie in defeating Garran Mhuire, Goatstown by 7-7 to 2-1. Neasa Codd was an inspirational presence for the winners, scoring 2-2.
The Sciath Herald proved a cracking encounter between Scoil San Treasa and Belgrove SNS with the former just pulling through by 4-7 to 0-12. Patrick Clancy proved a match-winner for Scoil San Treasa, chipping in with 3-3.
The standard never slipped as the day progressed and the best was left to last as Scoil Santain produced an imperious performance in defeating a brave Gaelscoil Inse Chór by 9-13 to 0-5.
Brothers Conchúr Ó Braonáin and Eoghan Ó Braonáin, sons of former Kilkenny and Dublin hurler James Brennan, shared a massive 6-8 between them.
