Ben ‘thrilled’ to swap isolation room for exam hall
EXAM fatigue may be setting in but Leaving Certificate student Ben Browne raced toward the examination hall at Ardscoil Rís, Limerick, to sit the maths paper.
The 19-year old, from Bunratty, Co Clare, explained how, after spending four days in an isolation room, while being treated for “suspected meningitis” at University Hospital Limerick, he was “thrilled” to be back again among the rest of the student population.
“I’m much better now though,” he told the Irish Independent.
While still recovering from his brief illness, Ben sat both English papers in a special private room with the help of a scribe. “I was given a pillow for my chair as I had undergone a painful lumber puncture and a few injections into my spine in the hospital,” he said.
Remaining upbeat, despite it all, he said: “Thankfully, I actually finish earlier than some of the other students, on Thursday the 14 th – when the World Cup starts, so I’m hoping to get to see all of the matches.”
Meanwhile, students at Malahide Community School were looking forward to taking a well-earned break this weekend. They were all smiles as they left the exam hall yesterday evening, where the Leaving Certs sat their first maths paper.
Many of the students had also sat the geography paper in the morning. Graham McCormack (18), from Swords, found the maths paper really easy.
There was one tricky question to do with drugs on the paper, he said, but added: “I flew threw the rest of it.”
Robin Tormey (18), from Malahide, felt that the calculus question was the hardest part of the higher level maths paper. “It was more the wording of it,” she said, adding that her favourite part was algebra. “I got it all done,” she said.
