Kane seals bumper £200,000-a-week six-year deal

DANIEL LEVY has smashed the wage structure at Tottenham Hotspur to give Harry Kane a new contract worth up to £62.4 million, with Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli next in line to finalise deals.

Kane has signed a six-year contract that could earn him £200,000 a week including bonuses, which almost doubles his previous deal.

While the England striker is still some way behind the Premier League’s very highest earners, Levy, the Tottenham chairman, has demonstrated his willingness to stretch his club’s budget to keep them competitive ahead of their move into a new stadium.

With Mauricio Pochettino, the manager, already committing himself to Spurs, Levy is now hopeful of confirming new contracts for midfielders Eriksen and Alli, while centre-half Jan Vertonghen and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris are also expected to recommit themselves.

Pochettino had wanted assurances that the futures of his key first-team players would be settled early in the summer and Levy is moving quickly to make sure that is the case.

Eriksen, Alli, Vertonghen and Lloris will all earn in excess of £100,000 a week, while there is also a significant budget to use for new signings. Securing Pochettino to an £8.5 million-ayear contract was key to Kane’s decision to stay, despite interest from Real Madrid.

Spurs have jumped to the front of the queue of clubs chasing Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and are hoping to push through the signing, possibly by offering players on loan.

Villa value Grealish at £40m, but Levy believes he can get him far cheaper and is prepared to sweeten any bid with loan deals for the likes of Josh Onomah and Cameron Carter-Vickers. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
