Morrow bags another win

-

ADRIAN Morrow might be 65 but he’s still swinging like a man half his age as he showed when adding the Ulster Seniors Championship to his long list of successes.

The sweet-swinging Portmarnock international (inset) captured four “majors” during his regular career – the “East” in 1975 and ’83 and the “South” in 1983 and ’96.

And nobody could stop him in firm and fast conditions at Rosapenna, where he shot rounds of 75 and 77 in high winds on the Old Tom Morris Links to win by a stroke from Greystones’ Barry O’Leary on 10-over par

With Rosapenna rockhard after a six-week drought, what Morrow described as “a six-club wind” made for some interesting scoring. “The weather was just unreal,” Morrow said. “You were driving par fours 400 yards long then hitting driver and killing a three-wood to reach holes which were around 350 yards long.” He was six-over par for his first five holes in the final round and then level for the last 13.

“It’s a stupid game sometimes,” joked Morrow, who has also won three European Seniors Individual titles, three Irish Seniors and two Leinster Seniors as well as five European Senior Team Championships with Ireland.

He has also played in three GB&I Concession Cup teams and was playing captain of the GB&I Seniors team for the match against the Continent of Europe at Valderrama in 2015.
