Cork board start process of finding replacement for long-serving Murphy
CORK officials have begun the process of replacing their longserving secretary Frank Murphy after the position was advertised online yesterday.
Murphy (below) has been the key figure in GAA in the county for the last 46 years and more recently had been heavily involved in the project to redevelop Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork city.
It was announced last October that Murphy would remain as Cork secretary for one more year as the stadium was finished but the advertising of the role looks set to bring down the curtain on a nearly 50 years of involvement with the GAA on Leeside.
The process is already under way with desirable criteria including an ‘appropriate third-level degree’ and ‘strong experience of financial management’ as well as a ‘commercial and/or legal background’. Meanwhile, Eamonn Burns has stepped down as Down football manager after three years in charge. Burns informed Down county board last night that he was not interested in continuing.
