Irate Diego accuses England of ‘theft’

-

ANOTHER day, another Diego Maradona tale.

He was due to be at England’s win over Colombia as a FIFA legend, collecting another £10,000 for his presence.

But, according to his own Instagram page, Maradona (below) had taken himself away to watch the game in a local establishment and he ended up providing a live stream with his own commentary.

After wearing a Colombian shirt in the build-up to the game, it was fairly clear where the Argentina star’s allegiances lay.

And he was irate in the aftermath of England’s dramatic penalty shoot-out success. “I saw a monumental theft,” said Maradona. “I apologise to all the Colombian people, but they must know the players are not to blame.”

Instead, the target of his ire was American whistler Mark Geiger and the head of referees, Pierluigi Collina. The Colombian angle is that the six cards they received was an unfair reflection of the game.

“I told Gianni Infantino that if I worked for FIFA I would change everything. It has to be transparent,” said Maradona. “The referee knows a lot about baseball, but he has no idea about football. This was theft.”
