Criminal stabbed in face and head
A 30-YEAR-OLD man is in serious condition in hospital after being brutally knifed in the face, head and back.
Barry Dodd made it to his sister’s apartment in Clanbrassil Street Lower, Dublin, after he was attacked in nearby Vincent Street in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Detectives are investigating whether the attack may have been carried out by Dodd’s own associates who have links to the Kinahan cartel.
“This is the most prominent theory but there are other things being looked at as well,” a source said.
Gardaí are investigating whether the attack may be linked to the punishment shooting of Dodd’s pal Maurice Walsh (28) who was shot through the leg in an area near Thomas Street in Dublin city centre, known locally as the Horse Yard, on the night of May 10.
Walsh, who is from The Coombe, was left with serious injuries that have been described as non life-threatening.
In that case, gardaí have been investigating whether the victim owed a drugs debt to key players in the south inner city drugs gang.
It is feared Dodd (inset) may have been targeted as part of the same dispute.
“He is someone that may have got himself caught up in something that is way above his head. He is lucky to be alive in reality,” the source added.
Despite losing a large amount of blood, Dodd is expected to survive his horrific ordeal. Dodd has around 60 previous criminal convictions and in 2014 he was jailed after being involved in a fight in the Great Hall of the Criminal Courts of Justice. Yesterday, gardaí issued a public appeal for information in what they described as an “assault” incident which is being investigated by officers at Kevin Street garda station.
“At approximately 10.40pm on Wednesday gardaí and emergency services were called to an apartment complex on Clanbrassil Street Lower where a 30-year-old local man was found to have sustained a number of stab wounds,” a Garda spokesman said. “Enquiries are ongoing.”
