1 Zuma Terrace, Harold’s Cross €550k DNG TERENURE, (01) 490 9000

IT is reported (by the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage) that Mount Drummond Avenue used to be known as Hen and Chicken Lane. Other sources suggest simply Chicken Lane, the hen being superfluous to requirements. At any rate, Zuma Terrace had appeared on it by the early 20th century, consisting of a terrace of three red-bricks near the corner of Harold’s Cross Road. Number 1 has been recently refurbished, including replacement sash windows in PVC to the front. It’s 958 sq ft with two reception rooms on the ground floor, both with cast-iron fireplaces. The kitchen opens to a walled patio garden out the back. The three bedrooms are upstairs.

4 Wesley Road, Rathgar €770k LISNEY TERENURE, (01) 492 4670

WESLEY Road is described as an Edwardian street, although a glance at 20th-century maps will tell you it was built sometime between 1912 and 1938, when King Edward VII had long gone to his eternal reward. Number 4 has plenty of appealing, early 20thcentury features that have been carefully preserved during a recent renovation. It’s also been extended to 1,324 sq ft, with a new skylit kitchen added. Also on the ground floor are a sitting room and a living and dining room with French doors to a paved garden. There are two bedrooms on the first floor and the master is on the top floor.

14 Sallymount Gardens, Ranelagh €800k NORTH’S PROPERTY, (01) 433 2222

RANELAGH Luas stop is about seven minutes’ walk from Sallymount Gardens via Ranelagh Road. Or you can make the journey a little longer but a lot more pleasant by meandering through Ranelagh Gardens Park. The street is a short (50-metre) cul-de-sac off Sallymount Avenue, and all the houses have gardens front and back. In the case of Number 14, the rear garden is a pleasant, wildish sort of spot with abundant shrubs and climbers. You reach the garden from the kitchen, next to which is a dining room with doors to a living room. The first floor has the three bedrooms and a bathroom with separate toilet, in a 969 sq ft overall floor area.

25A Kenilworth Lane West, Rathgar €545k SHERRY FITZGERALD RATHMINES, (01) 496 6066

AT Kenilworth Lane West is a row of mews houses in the former gardens of the houses at Leinster Road. Number 25A is one of a pair built in 2012, and was designed to be eco-friendly. It has solar panels, a rainwater harvesting system and a B2 energy rating. Its three bedrooms are on the first floor, two with en suite showers. The third bedroom gives onto a balcony so could be a nice home office or study. Otherwise the main living area is the open-plan kitchen, dining room and living room on the ground floor, with French doors to a back garden with paving and astroturf. The house measures 829 sq ft in total.
