SEAMUS POWER hopes of making the cut at the Greenbrier Classic were dashed last night after carding another level-par round of 70 yesterday.

The Waterford man needed to do more than that to keep pace early leader Anirban Lahiri of India who finished on 12-under overall in West Virginia’s White Sulphur Springs.

At home, Portumna’s Suzanne Corcoran made it back-to-back Irish Senior Women’s Close Championship titles as she beat Catherine Reilly from The Heath 3&2 in the final at Monkstown to retain her title.

Meanwhile, Jean Scanlon from Newcastle West also had reason for celebration after winning the Plate final two-up against last year’s winner Kate Evans of Royal County Down Ladies to bag the Shirley MacDonald Trophy. MAURICE KELLY yesterday became the most successful Irish Seniors Amateur Close champion as he stormed to a record fifth title at Enniscrone.

The Naas veteran held a two-stroke lead over Tuam’s Alan Moran heading into the final round and looked in a spot of bother on his front nine.

But Kelly finished his final round on 72 for a five-under par total overall, six strokes clear of Castlerock’s David Mulholland.
