Flood’s summer takes fresh twist
IT’S fair to say that Willo Flood could be forgiven for being short on answers if he’s asked for his own memories of World Cup 2018.
We previously reported how the Dubliner (above) had left new club Dunfermline after just a nine days as he activated a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave if he secured foreign employment.
The Dubliner duly landed a deal with Bali United in the Indonesian League, and had to publicly apologise to Dunfermline for leaving them in the lurch.
However, after a bit of fanfare around the newcomer, Bali have announced that the league authorities have refused to ratify the transfer because of limits on foreign players.
New rules state that an overseas recruit must have come from a top-flight side in their previous country to be eligible.
Flood was playing for Dundee United in Scotland’s second tier last season and therefore did not meet the criteria so his contract was cancelled.
The 33-year-old has now been left in limbo and is seeking clarification on a course of action.
