Did heatwave fry our brainwaves?

-

BUT hang on, could it be that the reason I couldn’t start the car was simply that it was too hot and it was making me stupid?

Heatwaves are bad for our brains, according to a new study carried out in Harvard.

The study followed 44 students during a hot spell in Boston, half of whom were sent to live in an air-conditioned dormitory, while the other half were left sweltering in the heat.

Guess what? The exam scores of students living in the hotter accommodation dropped by a whopping 13pc, leading researchers to conclude that the heat really does make it harder to think straight.

This is intriguing, and it might provide the answer to some questions that have been bothering me this past few weeks.

Is it the heat that’s convincing us that waistcoats are high fashion? Is it the heat that has everyone obsessed with ‘Love Island’? Is it the heat that’s exacerbating the ongoing Brexit madness? Now that it’s finally cooling down a little, maybe we can expect our IQs to recover. Maybe.
