Let’s stand up for ourselves

-

■ It has always been the case that when a bully feels he/she is threatened, he/she goes on the offensive to protect his/her position and ego.

US President Donald Trump, his immediate family members and his closest advisers, campaign managers and his former White House staff and secretaries of state are under investigation by a special prosecutor.

What does Mr Trump do to try to deflect attention away from this? He: Imposes trade tariffs on US allies; Tears up agreements with Iran and threatens US allies with dire consequences if they do not follow his diktats on sanctions with Iran;

■ Promotes the appointment to the US Supreme Court of a judge who will turn the clock of women’s rights back to the

1950s (not that he particularly agrees with him, but to maintain the support of his fascist, racist, misogynistic power base);

■ Threatens his Nato allies with withdrawal from that organisation;

■ Castigates Nato ally Germany for allowing itself to be ‘controlled’ by Russia (the country that the special prosecutor believes engineered Trump’s election).

I do not understand why our Government, and others, fail to acknowledge that this man is a sociopath intent on feeding his narcissism irrespective of the global economic disasters that will ensue, and the moral morass into which he is willing to cast the citizens of the USA.

What a sorry, inexcusable and cowardly failure to stand up for the dignity of women, race and gender.

I call on our Government to condemn this self-serving sociopath’s lunatic utterances, and to be counted as the Government of a country that will stand up for humanistic and moral values.

Anything else will serve to ridicule what we have fought for centuries through the sacrifice of our people – our self-respect and independence. Should this not come to pass, history will condemn every member of our Government. Our failure to act will result in economic downturn and, once again, will be the result of our Government remaining passive.

I demand an answer from our Government.
