Donald Trump’s foreign policy interventions
■ You report (Irish Independent July 12, 2018) that Donald Trump has accused Germany of being totally controlled by Russia.
At first sight, this comment would seem to be a continuation of Trump’s intellectual incontinence; but, thinking about this a little more, who else but Trump has more experience of being totally controlled by Russia?

■ There are fears that on his visit to the UK, Donald Trump will continue to voice support for a hard Brexit, criticising the British Prime Minister’s Chequers’ plan, which would be jumped upon by Eurosceptic rebels to further their purpose.
Put to one side that a guest does not openly disrespect his host (this is why we have diplomats, probably not brought to Trump’s attention by his cowering staff); but anyone who is stupid enough to attempt to use Trump’s sociopathic utterances to bolster their arguments would be open to ridicule and would be on to a hiding to nothing.

■ Twitter is going to remove millions of suspicious accounts, including those with fake followers. This is apparently intended to restore the app’s reputation after so many people have misused it.
I will miss @realDonaldTrump, with its interesting comments, alternative grammatical structures and occasional new words to be added to the English language. Dennis Fitzgerald
