Limerick will not be looking beyond Rebel clash, insists Morrissey

Morrissey believes the prize of a first All-Ireland SHC final appearance in

11 years won’t weigh heavily on John Kiely’s side this weekend.

Cork stand in Limerick’s way of a chance at silverware, and Limerick have not claimed the Liam MacCarthy Cup since way back in 1973.

The two Munster heavyweights face off at Croke Park on Sunday with Limerick looking for their first knockout championship victory over Cork in 17 years.

Cork have not won an All-Ireland since 2005 but are the back-to-back reigning Munster champions, after they defeated Clare 2-24 to 3-19 in the decider on July 1.

And despite all of the history pointing towards a Cork success, 22-year-old Ahane clubman Morrissey (above) is confident Limerick won’t be overawed.

“That’s more the supporters and media will be talking about, the prize. When we’re going into a match it really is a one-game-at-atime mentality,” says Morrissey.

“And we just won’t be thinking of the prize or the outcome that is at stake when we do face Cork, it’ll be more we just want to beat Cork on that day and there’s no looking beyond that really.

“There is a good buzz around the place and when you are getting results, you see the crowd on the pitch after the game, there is a good feel inside Limerick at the minute.”
