Dead-heats on the double at Leopardstown as ‘Van Dyck’ takes Tyros

JIM BOLGER and Aidan O’Brien shared the spoils in one of two remarkable dead-heats at Leopardstown where Cimeara and Sizzling couldn’t be separated in the Listed Kingdom Of Bahrain Vinnie Roe Stakes.

Sizzling threw down a strong late challenge under Seamie Heffernan, powering home to join the Bolger-trained filly, ridden by Kevin Manning, on the line.

Earlier, judges couldn’t separate the Tony Mullins-trained Howling Ridge and Ger Lyons’s Pythion in the Frank Conroy Irish EBF Maiden.

Pythion, under Colin Keane, chased Mullins’s charge down inside the final furlong and they were locked together in the last few strides before the first of two dead-heats was called.

Just over 30 minutes later, hot favourite Goddess finished last of six runners as Skitter Scatter claimed the Jockey Club Of Turkey Silver Flash Stakes.

The O’Brien-trained filly was a 10-length winner at the track earlier in the month and was sent off the 4/9 favourite to follow up in this Group Three test.

Ryan Moore was positive from the off aboard Goddess, but he was starting to get to work with a couple of furlongs still to run as Skitter Scatter loomed on her heels.

Patrick Prendergast’s runner was travelling well in the hands of Ronan Whelan and when he gave the signal, the 10/1 shot pulled clear and found plenty in the closing stages to win by a length and a half.

O’Brien and Moore enjoyed better fortune as Anthony Van Dyck produced a telling turn of foot to claim an impressive success in the Japan Racing Association Tyros Stakes.

The Ballydoyle inmate was sent off the 8/11 favourite but Copia Verborum set the early pace before the Galileo colt found his stride in the final furlong, winning by four and threequarter lengths.

Clare Cannon’s Innamorare recorded her second career success in the Keywest Handicap while Paddy Twomey’s An Aingeal Dubh triumphed in the first. Francis Casey’s Eight Till Late won the finale under Oisin Orr.
