EMERY HAILS RAMSEY AS FUTURE ARSENAL SKIPPER

-

UNAI EMERY believes Aaron Ramsey will stay at Arsenal and has the credentials to captain the club.

Ramsey is currently in talks with the Gunners over a new contract, with just one year of his current deal to run.

The Gunners want the 27-year-old make a long-term commitment to the club as Emery views him as an important part of his plans.

“I think Aaron is an important player for us and I want him to stay, but the contract is one thing for the club and the player. Football changes every day. I think about the match today first, then training tomorrow, the match on Saturday to continue our preparation,” said Emery.

Ramsey captained Arsenal as they went down 3-1 on penalties to Atletico Madrid in Singapore after a 1-1 draw.

Teenager Emile Smith Rowe stole the show for Arsenal with a stunning second-half goal.

The 17-year-old got his chance to shine as Emery opted to rest returning World Cup players Alex Iwobi, Mohamed Elneny and Mesut Ozil.

In a tale that was familiar of their story last season, Arsenal fell behind against the run of play in the 42nd minute when Luciano Vietto put Atletico ahead.

Arsenal responded perfectly, though as straight after the break Smith Rowe showed just why he is so highly thought of by the club’s coaching staff with a great strike from 20 yards..

Meanwhile, there is mounting speculation about the future of chief executive Ivan Gazidis, who is being linked with a similar role at AC Milan.
