Sitting on a fortune – €8.3m Lotto winner has to wait for their prize

- Conor Feehan

A LUCKY Lotto winner who scooped €8.3m in Saturday’s draw will have to sit tight until tomorrow morning before they can claim their jackpot prize.

The quick-pick ticket was bought in the past week at the Dunnes Stores in Bishops Court, Bishopstown in Cork.

The winning numbers were 3, 4, 5, 19, 26, 43 and the bonus number was 24 – and whoever bought it is now €8,347,497 richer.

“We don’t know yet if the winner is an individual or if it is a syndicate, but we urge them to check their ticket, sign the back of it, and keep it in a very safe place until they can contact the National Lottery office tomorrow morning,” said a lottery spokeswoman.

Shop manager John Porter said there was great excitement in the store and the town, with everyone wondering who the lucky winner was.

“We are delighted. This is brilliant for the shop and for the customer who bought the ticket. There is great excitement around this, but we don’t have a clue yet who the winner is,” he said.

The store is popular among locals, but also gets a lot of customers from people passing through the town.

National Lottery CEO Dermot Griffin said it was a bank holiday to remember for the lucky player or players.

“This is one of the highest Lotto jackpot wins of the year and we are delighted for the Rebel County,” he said.

“Over the past 30 years we have had 1,744 Lotto jackpot winners from all over Ireland winning prizes totalling over €2.5bn.

“Saturday night’s win brings to 174 the number of Lotto jackpots won in Co Cork.”
