Bernard set to join Silva Everton revolution

- Chris Bascombe

EVERTON are on the verge of announcing the signing of Brazilian international Bernard on a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk and they are also trying to secure a €32m (£28m) deal for Barcelona centreback Yerry Mina.

Marco Silva has fought off the interest of West Ham, AC Milan and Inter, among others, to lure 26-yearold Bernard to Goodison Park.

It is a coup for the newlyappointed Everton head coach, adding much-needed ammunition to his options, with Bernard able to play in various attacking midfield roles or just behind the striker.

Bernard’s arrival may facilitate the departure of Yannick Bolasie, who has been linked with a return to former club Crystal Palace. Bolasie will be allowed to leave for the right offer.

With the earlier addition of another Brazilian, Richarlison, Everton’s front line will be radically different this season.

Silva still wants to add a centreback before the transfer window closes as he starts the process of reshaping the Everton squad and their style of football.

Mina (23), who was one of Colombia’s best performers at the World Cup finals, tops his list but he faces competition from Lyon.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have completed the season-long loan signing of striker Salomon Rondon from West Brom.

Arsenal striker Lucas Perez could be set to follow in the footsteps of Jack Wilshere and swap the Emirates Stadium for West Ham, while Calum Chambers has been heavily linked with a season-long loan switch to Fulham.

Bournemouth are still hoping to wrap up the signing of Colombian defensive midfielder Jefferson Lerma for a club-record fee. The Cherries have agreed a fee understood to be €28m (£25m) with Levante for the 23-year-old. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
