Two women held after €670,000 drug seizure
TWO women in their 30s were arrested in the capital last night after a massive drug seizure with an estimated street value of more than half-a-million euro.
An estimated €670,000 worth of what is believed to be heroin and crack cocaine was seized by the Garda Drugs Unit and Specialised Crime Unit on the south side of Dublin.
Following a stop and search of a vehicle driven by a woman, gardaí found €4,000 worth of suspected heroin and arrested the woman at the scene.
She was detained last night at Ballyfermot garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act, 1996.
The drugs unit then carried out further searches at a home in Bluebell, where the larger quantities of drugs were found.
“In a follow up search at a house in Bluebell, 4.5kg of suspected heroin and crack cocaine [subject to analysis] was seized with an estimated street value of €670,000.
“A small amount of prescription tablets were also seized,” a Garda spokeswoman said.
Following the seizure, a second woman was arrested and was last night detained by gardaí at Kevin Street garda station, also under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (drugs trafficking) Act, 1996.
Gardaí said the arrests came on the back of ongoing investigations targeting organised crime in the area.
“Gardaí from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Special Crime Task Force, and supported by a number of specialised units from DMR, have this evening arrested two women (both in their 30s) in Bluebell, Dublin, as part of ongoing investigations targeting an organised crime group in south and west Dublin,” the spokeswoman added.
