Only few days left to get VHI cash deal

- Charlie Weston Personal Finance Editor

POLICYHOLDERS with VHI have been warned they have only a few days left to claim a cash windfall of up to €150.

The insurer is paying €50 per adult policy to members who register online and opt to pay by direct debit. Another €50 will be paid to those who opt to go paperless for all their health insurance documentation.

The money will be paid into bank accounts from early September.

Health insurance expert Dermot Goode said consumers have until Friday to apply for the cash. VHI has insisted the offer is a once-off and those who fail to register before Friday will miss out.

Mr Goode, of TotalHealthCover.ie, said: “For families, the free cash could be worth up to €150 and for those with young adults on their policy, the amount could be even higher.”

Money

He said around half of VHI’s customers are either unaware of the offer, or don’t realise the deadline is fast approaching. “We deal with VHI policyholders every day and our sense is that a large portion have not yet registered for this offer, which is why we are trying to get this message out there,” he said.

“It’s a once-off offer, and is essentially free money.”

Mr Goode said VHI was trying to entice members to pay their premium by direct debit and move to paperless communication, which will help reduce the company’s overheads.

Known as Online Advantage, VHI customers can avail of the offer if they opt to pay their premium by direct debit. This will mean they will be paid a once-off cash payment direct to their bank accounts of €50 on September 1.

If they opt to go “paperless” for all documentation, VHI will pay a further €50 for each adult insured on the policy in addition to the direct debit reward.

Members must log on to www.myvhi.ie and register by clicking on ‘Online Advantage’. A VHI spokesperson said a rush of applications was expected.
