Killarney retain AIG Senior Foursomes title in Munster Champions still on top while Monkstown edge Minor Cup thriller

Martina McCarthy holed the winning putt on the 19th to give Monkstown the AIG Minor Cup in a thrilling Munster final at

Tipperary.

The Cork club beat Dromoland 3-2 in a District final that saw three matches go the 19th and the other two to the final green.

Sieglinde Murphy beat Sarah Fox on the 19th to put Monkstown in front before Mary O’Donnell O’Brien won on the 19th and Claire Bracken triumphed at the last to edge Dromland in front.

Catherine Rice hit back for Monkstown with a 2 up win over Dorothea Madden before McCarthy held her nerve in the deciding match to defeat Michelle Bennett at the first extra hole.

The honours were spread out evenly in the Munster District Finals at Tipperary as Killarney, Castletroy, East Cork, Douglas and Macroom took home the other pennants.

In the AIG Senior Foursomes, reigning All Ireland champions Killarney retained their Munster crown with a 2.5-0.5 win over Limerick.

Amy Arthur and Ailish Mulcahy beat Emily Walsh and Fiona McGann 3&2 before Tracey Eakin and Mary Geaney clinched the pennant with a 2&1 win over Emma Guinane and Heather Fitzgerald.

Castletroy won the AIG Junior Foursomes with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Macroom with all three matches going to the 18th.

Wins for Gwynne Walsh and Kathleen Argue and Dympna Tobin and Maeve

Skelly were key for the Limerick club but in the AIG Junior Cup it was far more clearcut for East Cork as they beat Monkstown 4-1 with wins at the top of the order for Deirdre O’Mahony, Mairead Ni Mhurchu and Tara McCarthy sealing their victory.

Douglas cruised to a 4-1 win over Dooks in the Intermedia­te Cup with Jessica Kavanagh, Orla Coughlan and Jill Morris all winning.As for the AIG Challenge Cup, Macroom beat Clonmel 3.5-1.5 with Noreen O’Sullivan, Cait Breathnach and Margaret Keating all dominant for the Tipperary ladies.
