Pochettino: Ban is a life lesson for Lloris

MAURICIO POCHETTINO has expressed his relief that there were no serious consequences of Hugo Lloris’s drink-driving offence for anyone else who encountered the Tottenham captain more than twice over the legal alcohol limit in London last month. The Spurs manager would not disclose what sanctions the club had in place for Lloris (above) after he pleaded guilty at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday and was fined £50,000 (€56,000) and banned from driving for 20 months. Lloris, along with Dele Alli, is injured and will miss the visit of Liverpool to Wembley tomorrow, but the French World Cup winner will resume the club captaincy when he comes back. Pochettino said that Lloris, 31, had expressed great contrition at his conviction for the offence on August 24 and will now have a period on the sidelines with what the club say is a thigh injury sustained in the win over Manchester United three days after the driving offence was committed. Pochettino said he was glad that no one was injured by Lloris, who was stopped at 2.0am on a Friday driving his Porsche Panamera erratically, having earlier run a red light. Pochettino said: “He already knew in the moment that it was a big mistake. “Of course, any woman, man, person can make a mistake. Of course, (it’s) lucky there was no consequence. That is important. And, of course, now it is a massive lesson for him; a life lesson. Because he is clever, he learns and now he is going to move on.”
