Denmark leave out Eriksen as Arter remains in Irish exile

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN has been left out of the Denmark squad for their return visit to the Aviva Stadium – but could still make an appearance if he makes a quicker-than-expected recovery from injury.

Eriksen destroyed Ireland in last November’s World Cup playoff – but is currently sidelined at Spurs with an abdominal problem.

He has been left out of Denmark’s panel for Saturday week’s Aviva Stadium showdown. However, the Danish FA say he could still be added to the travelling party.

Martin O’Neill will today name his squad for the Denmark game and the visit of Wales three days later and he is expected to confirm that Declan Rice is taking more time to consider his future amid interest from England.

Meanwhile, it’s understood that peace talks between Roy Keane and Harry Arter have not materialised so the Cardiff midfielder is set to remain in his self-imposed exile.

In-form Portsmouth striker Ronan Curtis would love if Rice opted to continue his international career in green but has admitted that his Irish U-21 colleague is grappling with a major decision.

“He’s a great player and hopefully does come back to us,” said Curtis, who is hoping for another call from O’Neill. “Declan is a young bloke playing in the Premier League week in and week out and he’s having a bit of trouble now because his head is all over the place. Hopefully, he makes the right decision and goes with his heart.”
