DJ accused of mailing pipe bombs ‘left a trail of DNA clues’

PIPE-BOMB suspect Cesar Sayoc spent his last hours of freedom spinning records as a DJ in a Florida nightclub as federal authorities zeroed in on him using evidence he unwittingly left behind.

Lab technicians had linked DNA on two pipe bomb packages Sayoc is accused of sending to prominent Democrats to a sample previously collected by Florida state authorities. Then a fingerprint match turned up on a separate packages that authorities say he sent.

Investigators scouring his social media accounts had found the same spelling mistakes on his online posts — “Hilary” Clinton, Debbie Wasserman “Shultz” — as on the parcels has been charged with sending.

Prosecutors who charged Sayoc with five federal crimes said the fervent supporter of US President Donald Trump unwittingly left behind a wealth of clues, giving them a critical break in a coast-tocoast investigation into the pipe bombs.

Intercepted

The envelopes, addressed to Democrats such as Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and intercepted from Delaware to California, held vital evidence investigators said they used to arrest Sayoc on Friday outside of Miami.

“I didn’t know this guy was mad crazy like this,” said Stacy Saccal, manager of the Ultra Gentlemen’s Club in West Palm Beach. “Never once did he speak politics. This is a bar. We don’t talk politics or religion in a bar, you know?”

But Scott Meigs, another DJ at the club, said that Sayoc had been talking about politics to everybody at the club for the last two weeks, preaching the need to elect Republicans during the midterm elections in November.
