Turn some old leaves to save sleeping hedgehogs

-

THE diet of a hedgehog has given it the reputation of being the gardener’s friend.

They like to make nests with dead leaves and branches, therefore your pile that makes up a bonfire seems a nice place to sleep, so before lighting, check for hedgehogs. If you find one, simply release the hedgehog under a hedge or bush.

And if checking is too much bother, at least light the fire from one side only and keep people away from the unlit side so that any hedgehogs can hopefully escape in peace.

This Halloween, please check for hedgehogs and other wildlife before lighting a bonfire. Eve Parnell Dublin 8
