Cook serves up Cherries’ winner
STEVE COOK scored a second-half winner as Bournemouth scraped into the League Cup quarter-finals with an unconvincing 2-1 win over Norwich.
Defender Cook smashed home following a corner 18 minutes from time at the Vitality Stadium to see off the Championship visitors.
Norwich more than matched the hosts and looked like they might cause an upset when Onel Hernandez cancelled out Junior Stanislas’ first-half opener.
Victory for the Premier League Cherries, who are sixth in the top flight, maintains their unbeaten home record and puts them in the last eight of the tournament for the second successive season.
Elsewhere, League One Burton came through a thrilling 3-2 win over Championship side Nottingham Forest.
All the goals came in the second half with Burton going ahead when Scott Fraser’s shot deflected in off Saidy Janko for an own goal. Fraser doubled the lead before Lewis Grabban pulled one back for Forest.
Jake Hesketh’s brilliant volley extended Burton’s lead with 17-year-old Arvin Appiah’s stoppage-time goal not enough for the visitors.
