Cars set ablaze as Halloween night descends into chaos and vandalism
A GARDA car was attacked with a petrol bomb by a group of young men as Halloween night descended into chaos.
The incident took place on Benbulben Road in Drimnagh, Dublin 12, around 8 o’clock last night.
A group of men in their 20s threw the device, which fortunately did not ignite, at the patrol car. Gardaí confirmed that an “accelerant or possibly a firework” was involved in the incident and nobody was injured.
Emergency services were stretched as Gardaí, fire brigades and ambulance crews attended hundreds of fires and other incidents.
Dozens of illegal bonfires, as well as several cars on fire, some in close proximity to each other, were attended to by Dublin Fire Brigade.
There were reports of bins and furniture including couches being set ablaze.
More than 750 calls to the Dublin Fire Brigade were recorded as of 11pm. It said that more than 300 were fire calls, and approximately 200 were considered directly related to Halloween.
