Morris goal tops chart

THE goal of the season competition was particularly strong this term.

Michael Duffy’s volley for Dundalk against Levadia Tallinn was immense, but there was something special about the incredible Ian Morris effort for Bohemians in the FAI Cup semifinal defeat to Cork City.

There were a few lessons to take from that strike. It was live on TV in front of the packed Shed End, so the packaged clip was watched by millions of online viewers around the world – and the backdrop made it look all the more attractive.

If it had come in a regular Friday night league match at another venue, then we might have waited 72 hours – and a backdrop of parked cars or run-down facilities might have taken away some of the magic.
