Comedians laughing all the way to the bank

TWO of Ireland’s best-known comedians, Des Bishop and Neil Delamere, are laughing all the way to the bank.

That is according to new and separate accounts for the two which show that Delamere’s production firm, Neil Delamere Production­s Ltd was sitting on accumulate­d profits of €743,648 at the end of last year.

In a bumper year for the Co Offaly man, the company’s cash pile increased from €570,132 to €711,186.

Mr Delamere’s firm last year recorded profits of €139,939 and this followed the company recording profits of €135,034 in 2016. Pay to directors last year reduced from €132,212 to €124,644 made up of €74,644 in pay and €50,000 in pension payments. Mr Delamere is currently touring his ‘Controlled Substance’ tour around the country. Separate accounts filed by Des Bishop’s firm, Blow In Entertainm­ent Ltd, show that the cash pile at the firm last year increased from €173,043 to €211,420. In the 12 months to the end of December last, accumulate­d profits increased, going from €74,349 to €88,514 in the 12 months to the end of December last.

The pay to the one person employed by the firm last year remained the same at €131,319–made up of €90,000 in pay and €41,319 in pension payments. Mr Bishop’s firm recorded a profit of €14,165 last year and this followed a profit of €54,604 in 2016. The Irish-American comedian is also touring with dates across Ireland and in Boston, and New York along with Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.
