Three killed on our roads in 24 hours

THREE people have lost their lives in a black 24-hour period on the roads.

The latest saw a woman pedestrian in her 70s fatally injured when she was involved in an accident with a truck.

She was pronounced dead at the scene at Mourne Vale Estate in Dundalk, Co Louth, after 6.50pm. The driver of the truck was uninjured.

Earlier yesterday a man in his 40s was killed in a collision in Co Laois.

The incident occurred on the N80 on Simmons Mill Cross Road shortly before 9am.

The driver was fatally injured and two occupants of the other car, a woman and her child, suffered minor injuries.

They were taken to Portlaoise General Hospital and Crumlin Hospital. Investigat­ions into the collision are ongoing.

A woman in her 60s was killed in a three-car collision in Co Roscommon the previous night. It happened on the N63 Lanesboro to Roscommon road shortly before 9.45pm.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to Roscommon Hospital. The drivers of the two other cars were also injured.
