Lucan best Hermitage in Moor of Meath Trophy

-

LUCAN Golf Club’s intrepid juniors took the spoils in the annual Moor of Meath Trophy match with near neighbours Hermitage last week.

The Moor of Meath is a townland situated at the centre of a triangle formed by Maynooth, Dunboyne and Lucan and it has particular significance for both clubs as its where the first members of Lucan Golf Club first played the game in 1897.

The club moved to its present location near the Spa Hotel in 1900, but in 1905, a number of members broke away to form The County Dublin Golf Club, which changed its name to Hermitage soon after.

The clubs enjoy a close bond and friendly rivalry with Hermitage winning the annual Esker Shield match this year. However, the junior members of both clubs contest the Moor of Meath Trophy with Lucan pleased to claim the spoils on Hermitage territory this time around.
